Here’s the scoop: My family owns a cabin (house, really) in a tiny and very isolated Gold Rush town called Johnsville, about 45 miles north of Truckee. It sits at roughly 5,180 elevation and is surrounded by Plumas-Eureka State Park. It’s located at the end of a dead-end road so there’s almost no thru-traffic. In short, it’s idyllic AF.

Each year I host High Sierra Bro Week, where my chill no-drama mates are invited up for a week to dirtbike, mountain bike, golf, hike, fish, 4-wheel, barbecue, shroom, chill, etc among towering pines.

Here’s everything you need to know:

• Bros only. If you want to bring your dog check with me first.
• RSVP if you want, but not required.
• The first three guys to show up get a bed. The 4^th guy gets the futon. The 5^th guy gets the couch. After that, y’all figure it out: floor, back deck, garage, back yard, et al. So bring a sleeping pad and bag just in case.
• There is a grocery store in the nearby town of Graeagle with an excellent butchery (grass-fed steaks!). You can bring food and drink as well (good bread is always welcome), but take it all back with you when you depart. Typically we just pony up some cash per day to go shopping.
• The house has all the usual stuff—full kitchen, wash/dryer, two bathrooms, 4 bedrooms—plus a garage to park your bike.
• Good pickleball courts in Graeagle, so bring your paddle.
• Swimming hole nearby, so pack your mesh Speedos.
• There is strong Wi-Fi, but it’s a mountain town so it sometimes cuts out. Cell service sucks so we use Wi-Fi calling. There’s a landline as well.
• There is world-class mountain biking, dirt biking, and hiking here, and several very nice golf courses.
• The best outdoor brewery in America is a short drive away.

I’ll be here from the 5^th to the 12^th but you can stay any amount of time that week. Mi casa, su casa. Hope you can make it. If not, we’ll see you next year.

Take Hwy 80 to Truckee, then take the Hwy 89 exit heading north. Stay on 89 all the way to Graeagle (don’t go left at the 49/89 split or you’ll end up in Downieville). Eventually you’ll reach Graeagle. At the east end of town next to a golfing range/burger shack…

From Reno take 395 north, then Hwy 70 west toward Portola. Continue past Portola along the Feather River to Blairsden, and turn left on Hwy 89 toward Graeagle.
